USB-C: One port to rule them all

Why use a USB-C port? Let's examine what's wrong with current USB ports – USB stands for Universal Serial Bus, and the term "universal" is certainly true. Currently, USB devices are the most common and convenient among our peripherals. However, with USB port updates, to meet different market applications, USB ports have also spawned Type-A and Type-B ports. These two types of ports also have standard, Mirco (many hard disk docks use micro-B ports), and mini (most commonly used in smartphones and tablets) subcategories. What's even worse is that the USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 mini and Mirco ports are not compatible at all. Now that it's the USB 3.1 era, if this trend continues, new ports will probably emerge, which is a betrayal of the name "universal" port.
In this situation, the USB official organization USB-IF thought it was not working anymore; if this continues, everything will be in chaos. They decided to return to their original intention (a big mistake), and created the USB-C port, which is defined as the new generation of USB port standards and is designed to adapt to mobile devices such as smartphones, tablets, and laptops.
The USB-C port is forward-looking and must adapt to multiple interface protocols. Therefore, it has a total of 24 pins, while USB 3.0 ports typically have 9 to 11, and USB 2.0 only has 4 pins. However, don't worry, the increase in pins hasn't resulted in a larger USB-C port size; it has actually been reduced in size (relative to the standard port), meeting the needs of mobile devices.
We can think of the USB-C port as a "basket." The USB-IF cleverly redefined this basket. Older users (USB 2.0) can use it to go to the market and buy groceries, and younger users (USB 3.1) can carry it to shop for fashion items. It also has various advantages to be explored.
Of course, although USB-C has many advantages, it is not without its drawbacks – if what is mentioned below can be considered drawbacks. First, USB-C is incompatible with other A and B ports. Second, although it looks small, the length and width of the USB-C port are 8.6 x 2.4 mm, while the USB 2.0 mini-B port is 6.8 x 3.0 mm, and the micro-B port is 6.85 x 1.80 mm; therefore, it is actually a bit larger.
